What is a Slow Activity?

A "Slow Activity" as I define it, is an activity that lets your mind be at ease and allow it to wander.  Some examples of this can be:

- Cooking an old favorite, familiar recipe from memory
- Folding laundry
- Taking a walk, hike or run outside without earbuds and without your smartphone/smart watch
- Walking the dog
- Cleaning
- Meditating
- Yoga
- Gardening
- Watercolor
- Needlepoint and other such crafts
- Wrapping presents
- Knitting/Crocheting
- Oil painting
- Calligraphy/hand lettering
- Reading (for some)
- Snuggling a newborn baby
- Filing familiar paperwork (there are some caveats to this one though)
- Praying
- Journaling
- Giving yourself a manicure
- Sitting
- People watching
- Writing poetry

Why are Slow Activities important?
Slow activities give your brain a chance to rest.  In some circles, these activities are probably considered "BORRINGGGG" because they provide very little by way of mental stimulation.  They're not particularly "sexy" or exciting either.  But they give you a chance to take a breath to step away from the fray.  Even if it's just for 5-10 minutes once every few days, it's important to create time for these types of activities.

The biggest thing is that in The Go Slow Life, you are not adding layers to these activities with music, podcasts, audiobooks, TV, social media, etc.  You are doing just the intended activity by itself.

If that sounds impossible to consider completing these tasks without some kind of outside stimulation, I'd recommend trying one of the above TODAY at your earliest opportunity for just 5-10 minutes!  And then do it again tomorrow.  Do it for a week straight, then let me know how it feels.

For me? I feel tremendously more at peace when I achieve some Slow Activities in my day on a regular basis.

What are some other examples of Slow Activities in your life?
